A. Journal Overview

SWARA: Antologi Pendidikan Musik is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal published by Program Studi Pendidikan Musik, Fakultas Pendidikan Seni dan Desain, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. The journal provides an academic platform for researchers, educators, practitioners, and graduate students to disseminate original research articles, theoretical papers, literature reviews, and best practices in the field of music education.

SWARA is committed to advancing knowledge and innovation in music education by publishing high-quality research that contributes to the development of music pedagogy, curriculum, learning technologies, artistic practices, and educational policies. The journal welcomes interdisciplinary perspectives that connect music with education, culture, technology, and society at local, national, and international levels.

B. Focus and Scope

SWARA publishes original manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of music education and related disciplines. The journal covers, but is not limited to, the following areas:

Music Education
Curriculum development, instructional strategies, assessment and evaluation, music teacher education, educational psychology, classroom action research, and educational innovation.
Music Pedagogy
Instrumental and vocal pedagogy, ensemble instruction, conducting, music learning methodologies, audiation-based learning, transformative learning, inclusive music education, and lifelong music learning.
Music Theory and Musicianship
Music theory, harmony, ear training, solfège, music literacy, composition, arranging, and musicianship development.
Music Performance and Practice
Instrumental and vocal performance, choir, ensemble, performance preparation, artistic interpretation, and practice-based research.
Ethnomusicology and Cultural Studies
Traditional music, local wisdom, indigenous musical practices, music heritage preservation, community music, and cultural identity in music education.
Music Technology and Digital Learning
Educational technology, digital media, artificial intelligence in music education, online learning, multimedia resources, and music production for educational purposes.
Interdisciplinary Studies in Music
Research integrating music with arts education, psychology, sociology, communication, health, culture, and other relevant disciplines.
Submitted manuscripts should demonstrate originality, methodological rigor, theoretical or practical significance, and contribute meaningfully to the international development of music education scholarship.
C. Peer Review Policy

All manuscripts submitted to SWARA: Antologi Pendidikan Musik undergo a rigorous, transparent, and fair editorial and peer-review process to ensure the publication of high-quality scholarly work.

1. Initial Editorial Screening
Upon submission, the Editorial Office conducts an initial assessment to ensure that the manuscript complies with the journal's Author Guidelines, formatting requirements, ethical standards, and Focus and Scope. Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be returned to the authors for revision or declined before peer review.
2. Plagiarism Screening
All manuscripts are screened using Turnitin (or Similarity Check) to assess textual similarity. Manuscripts with an overall similarity index exceeding [e.g., 20%], excluding references and properly cited quotations, may be rejected or returned for revision at the discretion of the Editorial Board.
3. Double-Blind Peer Review
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process by at least two independent reviewers who possess expertise relevant to the manuscript's subject area. The identities of both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process to ensure impartiality and objectivity. Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on:
  • Originality and novelty;
  • Scientific and methodological rigor;
  • Relevance to the journal's focus and scope;
  • Significance of the findings;
  • Organization, clarity, and quality of writing;
  • Adequacy of references and supporting literature.
4. Editorial Decision
The Editor-in-Chief makes the final editorial decision after considering the reviewers' recommendations. Editorial decisions include:
  • Accept;
  • Minor Revision;
  • Major Revision;
  • Reject.
Where reviewers provide substantially conflicting recommendations, the Editor may assign the manuscript to an additional reviewer before reaching a final decision.
5. Author Revision
Authors receiving revision requests are expected to revise their manuscripts and submit a detailed response to reviewers' comments within the timeframe specified by the Editorial Office. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation when necessary.
6. Copyediting
Accepted manuscripts proceed to the copyediting stage, during which editorial staff review the manuscript for language quality, grammar, consistency, formatting, references, citation style, and compliance with the journal's editorial standards. Authors may be contacted to clarify or approve editorial changes before the manuscript advances to production.
7. Production
Following copyediting, the manuscript enters the production stage, where it is typeset according to the journal's publication format. Layout editing, metadata verification, DOI assignment, proofreading, and final quality control are completed before publication. Authors are provided with page proofs and are responsible for reviewing them carefully and reporting any typographical or formatting errors within the specified deadline.
8. Publication
After all editorial, copyediting, and production processes have been successfully completed, the manuscript is formally published in the scheduled issue of SWARA: Antologi Pendidikan Musik. The published article becomes immediately available through the journal's open-access platform and receives its permanent citation information, including page numbers (where applicable) and Digital Object Identifier (DOI).
D. Publication Ethics Statement

SWARA is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.

Editorial Responsibility
Editors evaluate manuscripts solely on their scholarly merit, originality, methodological quality, and relevance to the journal without discrimination based on nationality, gender, ethnicity, religion, institutional affiliation, or political beliefs.
Confidentiality
Editors, reviewers, and editorial staff maintain the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and do not disclose any information except as necessary during the editorial process.
Originality and Research Integrity
Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts are original works. Any form of plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, or unethical research practice will result in rejection or retraction in accordance with COPE guidelines.
Authorship and Conflict of Interest
All listed authors must have made substantial scholarly contributions to the research. Authors are required to disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that may influence the interpretation of their work.
Corrections and Retractions
When significant errors or ethical concerns are identified after publication, SWARA will publish corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions in accordance with internationally recognized publishing ethics standards.
E. Open Access Policy

SWARA provides immediate open access to all published articles under the principle that freely available research supports the global exchange of knowledge and promotes wider dissemination of scholarly work.

F. Author Fees

To support the editorial process, professional publishing services, and long-term open-access dissemination, SWARA: Antologi Pendidikan Musik applies the following Article Processing Charges (APC):

Article Submission Fee
0 IDR (Free of charge). No fees are charged for manuscript submission or the peer review process.
APC (Non-UPI Authors)
IDR 400,000 for authors from institutions other than Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI).
APC (UPI Authors)
IDR 300,000 for authors affiliated with Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI).
APC Coverage
The APC covers editorial management, peer-review administration, copyediting, layout editing, DOI registration, online publication, and long-term maintenance of the journal website.
Important Note: The APC is charged only after the manuscript has been accepted for publication following the peer-review process. Any applicable fee waivers or special considerations are subject to the discretion of the Editorial Board and must be requested prior to publication.
