Development of Music Learning Media for Folk Song Materials for Elementary School Students

Abstract

Music learning on folk song materials in elementary schools faces challenges, including limited interactive media, inadequate digital technology use, and low student engagement in learning folk songs. These conditions can reduce students’ interest in music and limit their understanding of Indonesia’s cultural diversity. This study aimed to develop a website-based music learning medium for folk song materials for elementary school students and assess its feasibility and practicality. The study used a Research and Development method with the ADDIE model, comprising analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. It was conducted at an elementary school and involved students, teachers, subject-matter experts, and media experts. Data were collected through observation, interviews, expert validation questionnaires, teacher and student response questionnaires, and documentation. Quantitative and qualitative descriptive techniques were used to analyze the data. The results showed that the website had an appealing interface, was easy to use, and matched elementary students’ learning needs. It supported students’ understanding through visual, audio, and interactive learning activities. The medium also encouraged students to recognize folk songs as part of Indonesian culture. In conclusion, the website-based medium can support elementary music instruction. Future research should examine its effectiveness with larger samples and compare its learning outcomes with those of conventional media.
